Today's Destiny 2 livestream brought a ton of great news for Destiny 2 players. On top of revealing Beyond Light, the newest expansion coming this September, Bungie also revealed two additional expansions called The Witch Queen and Lightfall, which are set to arrive in 2021 and 2022.
If there was any doubt that we weren’t getting a Destiny 3 any time soon (there wasn’t), it’s gone. During their livestream to reveal Destiny 2: Beyond Light for September 22, 2020, Bungie also confirmed that two more major expansions were planned for the franchise with The Witch Queen and Lightfall planned for 2021 and 2022, respectively.
If The Witch Queen sounds terrifying, it should. Savathûn, the Witch-Queen, is the sister of Xivu Arath, God of War, and Oryx, the Taken King. You might remember Oryx from Destiny 1 Year 2 when we killed him for seeking revenge on us after we killed his son, Crota, in Destiny 1 Year 1. We have quite the feud going with this family, Guardian, and Savathûn, the Witch-Queen is coming for revenge. She has shown up several times throughout Destiny 2 via the lore and in-game references, bust the tone is usually that she’s perhaps the scariest threat we’ve seen in the universe. Time will tell.
Lightfall is a bit more of a mystery, which makes sense given it’s not due out until 2022. We have two full years of Destiny 2 content to work through before we get there. What we do know is that it centers around the Nine. They have popped up plenty in the lore and a bit through the story, but we haven’t really dug into the Nine to the same extent as some other Destiny 2 factions. That will change in 2022 but worrying about that is for another day.
