How to start the Vex Offensive in Destiny 2

Published , by Bill Lavoy and Sam Chandler

This guide will show players how to start the Vex Offensive in Destiny 2, as well as how to find Vex Invasion Zones. This all begins with a quest from Ikora called, Vex Invasion, which includes a step called Eyes on the Moon. The in-game directions aren’t very clear on where to find these, so follow the steps below.

How to get Eyes on the Moon and start Vex Offensive

Players must complete Eyes on the Moon before they can play Vex Offensive.

A lot of players may notice that before they can launch the Vex Offensive activity on the Moon, they must first complete the quest, Eyes on the Moon. Unfortunately, there is no explanation about this quest in-game.

Before you get Eyes on the Moon, you must first speak to Ikora and get the Vex Invasion quest. Play Vex Invasion Zones to complete this quest.

In order to get the Eyes on the Moon, players must first speak to Ikora in the Tower to get the quest, Vex Invasion. This quest tasks tasks you with heading to the Moon to kill 100 Vex and 3 Gate Lords. To do this, players must participate in the new Vex Invasion Zone activity (more on this below).

Completing the Vex Invasion quest will turn it into Eyes on the Moon. Speak with Eris to progress the quest further, unlocking the Vex Offensive activity.

Once you start a Vex Invasion Zone, you will need to kill a whole lot of Vex that are trying to invade the Moon. Doing this will help you complete Ikora’s quest, Vex Invasion. As soon as the Vex Invasion quest is completed, it will change into Eyes on the Moon.

Now you must visit Eris Morn on the Moon. Eris will tell you about the Vex and direct you to complete the Vex Offensive. Launch the Vex Offensive from the Moon and take the fight to the Black Garden.

How to find and start Vex Invasion Zones

Before you can actually participate in the Vex Offensive, you must first play the Vex Invasion Zones. At first glance, it might seem like these events are entirely random when in fact there is a system. In order to start a Vex Invasion Zone, you must simply wait for a Public Event to end (or complete it) and then wait a few minutes. A Vex Invasion Zone will always start after a Public Event finishes.

Keep in mind that Vex Invasion Zones can only be found in specific locations. To find a Vex Invasion Zone, bring up the map of the Moon. There will be three Vex Invasion Zones to choose from, which are also called Warpgate Hotspots. The Vex Invasion Zones can be found in the following regions of the Moon:

Once Guardians find an active Vex Invasion Zone, they will need to defeat the Gate Lord located there, which should be easy enough to spot considering it’s basically a giant Minotaur. But there is a trick to ensuring you turn the Vex Invasion Zone heroic, and that is to kill the Hydras.

Defeating all three Gate Lords and their Hydras spawns the Overlord.

As you begin attacking the Gate Lord, it will call in support. At some points, Hydras will add their strength to the invasion. Always defeat the Hydras before defeating the Gate Lord. This will cause another Gate Lord to spawn. This can be repeated three times which causes an Overlord to spawn. Defeat the Overlord to complete the Vex Invasion Zone.

As mentioned above, completing a Vex Invasion Zone is critical if you want to get the Eyes on the Moon quest and play the Vex Offensive. You may find that you need to complete a couple Vex Invasion Zones before the quest completes.

Now that players know how to start Vex Offensives by getting the Eyes on the Moon quest from Vex Invasion Zones, they can start earning even more powerful gear. Make sure you’re tracking all Powerful gear tiers and sources so you can efficiently hit max Power. Swing by the Shacknews Destiny 2 guide for more help with Shadowkeep and Season of the Undying.
