Raise and lower water and lava levels in Super Mario Maker 2

Among the many different tools available in the Super Mario Maker 2 Course Maker is the option to add water and lava to levels. However, players must be sure to set the water or level height appropriately, lest players drown or find themselves sinking to a fiery death. It's easy to adjust water and lava levels in the Super Mario Maker 2 Course Maker mode. First, make sure an appropriate course theme is selected over on the right-hand toolbar within Course Maker — forest or jungle themes in Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U Game Styles seem to do the trick.. From there, players will see the Water Level or Lava Level adjustment button appear underneath the course theme.

Use the Water Level function to adjust water or lava levels.

With the Water/Lava Level function activated, the base water level will be set toward the bottom of the editor grid. Players can adjust the level by selecting the circle within the yellow-hued adjuster: Simply drag it up or down to set a manual level.

Once set, players can also press and hold on the arrow indicator to set automatic rising and lowering of water or lava. The speed is set with colors and arrows, where the yellow single arrow is the slowest speed and the three blue arrows represent the fastest.
