Saviors of Uldum is Hearthstone's second expansion of 2019

Hearthstone remains under siege by the forces of the League of E.V.I.L. In a blow against the forces of good (and common sense), the ragtag group of bad guys led by Arch-Villain Rafaam have abducted the entire floating city of Dalaran. So what does the villainous group do for an encore? They venture into the desert, of course. But they're going to meet some heavy resistance along the way, as Hearthstone unveils the Saviors of Uldum expansion.

Late last week, Hearthstone teased the return of the League of Explorers. And indeed, the daring group of adventurers are making their return in Saviors of Uldum. Elise Starseeker, Sir Finley Mrrgglton, Brann Bronzebeard, and Reno Jackson are all back and venturing through the deserts of Uldum in an effort to thwart the machinations of the League of E.V.I.L. More details on their return and their role in the upcoming Saviors of Uldum solo adventure are coming soon. In the meantime, the returns go beyond beloved characters.

A major Hearthstone mechanic is also making its return with the addition of new Quests. For those who missed out on Journey to Un'Goro, Quest cards always appear in the player's opening hand. Quests will offer game-changing rewards for completing certain objectives during any given match. To help kick off this expansion reveal, Blizzard revealed two of the new Quests.

(1) Untapped Potential
Type: Spell
Class: Druid
Rarity: Legendary
Quest: End 4 turns with any unspent Mana. Reward: Ossirian Tear.

Ossirian Tear
Passive Hero Power
Your Choose One cards have both effects combined.

(1) Supreme Archaeology
Type: Spell
Class: Warlock
Rarity: Legendary
Quest: Draw 20 cards. Reward: Tome of Origination.

Tome of Origination
Hero Power
Draw a card. It costs (0).

Saviors of Uldum will also introduce a few all-new mechanics. Reborn is the new keyword making its way into Hearthstone. Any minion with the Reborn keyword will be resurrected with just one health remaining. They can only be restored once, so make the most of their second life.

(4) Restless Mummy
Type: Minion
Class: Warrior
Rarity: Common
Rush. Reborn

There's also a new spell type called Plagues. The five League of E.V.I.L. classes (Priest, Shaman, Warrior, Warlock, and Rogue) have discovered immense power in the pyramids of Uldum. They can unleash Plague spells on the battlefield, which will affect all minions on the board.

(9) Plague of Death
Type: Spell
Class: Priest
Rarity: Epic
Silence and destroy all minions.

These cards will go nicely with a few of the other cards that Blizzard unveiled today. EVIL Totem will further feed into the Lackey mechanic. Jar Dealer will prove to be a superb opening play card for the Rogue. Questing Explorer offers Quest synergy. And then there's Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron, which is exactly what it sounds like. Shacknews will go into more details on these cards, what they do, and how players should use them a little bit later today.

Hearthstone: Saviors of Uldum is set to release on August 6. Those who log into Hearthstone any time within 90 days of that release date will receive a free Legendary Quest Card from the new expansion. As for pre-order bundles, the standard pre-order bundle will come with 50 card packs, an Elise Starseeker card back, and a random Golden Legendary. The Mega Bundle comes with 80 card packs, the Elise Starseeker card back, a random Golden Legendary, and an Elise Starseeker Druid Hero.
