How to get Imperials, Cabal Empire currency in Destiny 2

Published , by Sam Chandler

The Imperial is a new currency introduced to Destiny 2 in Season of Opulence. At the moment, the only use for these Imperials is to upgrade the Chalice of Opulence. Because each upgrade requires several thousand, it’s a good idea to know how to get Imperials and the best ways to get a lot of them very quickly.

How to get Imperials

The Imperial is the official currency of the Cabal Empire and is used to upgrade the Chalice of Opulence. At the start of Season of Opulence, you will receive the Chalice as part of the questline, An Imperial Summons which proceeds into The Invitation.

Upgrading the Chalice of Opulence requires thousands of Imperials, so knowing where to get this limited currency is going to be important. At the moment, there are only two key sources of Imperials:

Purchase bounties from Werner or Benedict and complete them to earn Imperials.

There are only four bounties available a week from the two robots that Emperor Calus uses to communicate with you. These bounties also reward Powerful gear, so completing them is a good idea. However, they only reward a small sum of Imperials, which is why the Triumphs are so important.

Completing one of the Menagerie Triumphs can earn you 500 Imperials in a single go. Most of these Triumphs involve completing encounters or defeating bosses in the Menagerie, but there are some that are rewarded for completing bounties, a kind of double-dip.

Completing Menagerie Triumphs earns you Imperials.

Some of the Triumphs for the Menagerie also require you to complete encounters within a certain time limit or perform feats as a Fireteam. You can check your progress on the Triumphs page:

  1. Open the menu
  2. Navigate to the Triumphs tab
  3. Open Destinations
  4. Go over to Minor
  5. Select Menagerie

Finally, another way to get more Imperials is to open the chests on the Imperial Barge. Each chest costs 5,000 glimmer to unlock, but each one rewards 150 Imperials. Spend some time getting more glimmer and then open up the chests until you have enough!

For the first week, it’s going to be difficult to acquire a whole lot of Imperials, as a lot of the Triumphs require completion of various bosses. However, if you focus it with a team, you might be able to upgrade the Chalice of Opulence a few times.
