There are a few major addtions headlining the new season’s patch notes, including Slipstreams, Neo Titled, Mega Mall, and a new type of shotgun. The first of these, Slipstreams, are giant rings resembling Dyson blade-less fans that are used to propel players across the battlefield. But players aren’t the only ones able to enter this new transit system, expect to find vehicles – and projectiles – hurtling through the air at extreme speeds.

Neo Tilted and Mega Mall are two new locations for players to fight around and build in. These have cropped up in an area that most players ought to recognize. These funky new places have taken on a more sci-fi look, to fit with the theme of Season 9.

Use Fortnite Season 9's new Slipstream transport system to quickly move around the map.

As for the new weapon type, a combat shotgun is now up for grabs. This semi-auto offers a tight pellet spread and a fast rate of fire, so expect this to become a prime pick during close-quarters combat. With each new additional also comes some subtractions. Clingers, Buried Treasure, Pump Shotgun, Poison Dart Trap, Scoped Revolver, Suppressed Assault Rifle, Thermal Assault Rifle and Balloons have all been vaulted – but grenades are back on the table.

There’s also a new collectible to be found during battles. Sticking with the sci-fi theme of Fortnite Season 9, players can now find Fortbytes hidden around the world. Limited to Battle Pass owners, Fortbytes are little computer chips that include a secret message. Collect all 100 over the course of the season to uncover the season-long mystery.

Creative mode now lets you make adjustments to the creatures and monsters.

Creative mode has also received a whole lot of new content to use. Players will find Neo Tilted prefabs to use, hovering platforms, and more customization with creatures, including health, damage, and score adjustments.

Now that Season 9 of Fortnite is here, the game is entering a new era, a science fiction era. It’ll be interesting to see what Epic Games goes with for Season 10, as they’ve already touched on a lot of the major genres: Vikings, pirates, superheroes, and more.
