Summer Games Done Quick 2019 schedule outlined

Published , by Ozzie Mejia

It's about to be that time of year again. The best speedrunners in the world are preparing to come together at this year's Summer Games Done Quick, a week-long marathon of video game speedruns for charity. Late Sunday evening, the folks at GDQ posted the full schedule for this year's event, which will benefit Doctors Without Borders. And there are a handful of surprises in store for this edition.

Summer Games Done Quick will come to a climactic end with back-to-back 16-bit era blockbusters. The event will end with puwexil running Chrono Trigger, an intimate 6 hour and 10 minute stroll through one of the greatest RPGs of all-time. That will preceded by the usual Super Metroid run, albeit one with a twist. Last year's Games Done Quick Express from TwitchCon debuted a special tandem game combining The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid and adding in a Randomizer, where key items will be scattered across both games. Runners Andy and Ivan will join forces to beat both of these games and roll with the randomized punches, as donations continue to come in over whether Samus will save or kill the animals at the end of her game.

Other runs of interest vary from classic to modern releases. SGDQ will open with Spyro the Dragon from the recent Spyro Reignited Trilogy, followed by a solo Portal 2 run. Monday will see a 92-minute Titanfall 2 run, a three-player co-op Borderlands 2 expedition, and the first two Metroid Prime games. Tuesday will open with back-to-back Punch-Out games, with zallard1 playing through the original arcade Punch-Out and the Wii version of the series. Thursday will feature the SGDQ debut of Kingdom Hearts III (which has seen some play on the recurring GDQ Hotfix streams), with three runners teaming up for a co-op relay, as well as a special Super Mario World blind relay race. Lastly, look out for Friday, which will feature the GDQ debut of Tetris Effect, an all-boss Dark Souls run, and a 35-minute run of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Summer Games Done Quick is set to run from June 23-30, with the full schedule available on the Games Done Quick website. Catch all of the action live on Twitch. And for more on Games Done Quick, feel free to revisit our TwitchCon 2018 interview.
