Gourd Seed locations - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Published , by Sam Chandler

Gourd Seeds are the only means of upgrading your Healing Gourd in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. At the start of the game, you will only have access to a single use of the Healing Gourd. While this might get you through some of the game, being able to heal more than once is going to be key to defeating some of Sekiro's more challenging encounters.

This guide is under construction. Expect this page to be updated as we locate more Gourd Seeds in Sekiro.

How to upgrade Healing Gourd

Bring Emma Gourd Seeds and she will upgrade the Healing Gourd.

The Healing Gourd can be upgraded to offer more uses. This can be accomplished by finding a Gourd Seed and returning to Emma at the Dilapidated Temple. Speak with Emma and offer her the Gourd Seed and she will increase the uses by one for every Gourd Seed you bring her.

Gourd Seed locations

There are a total of 9 Gourd Seeds to find in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Most of these will be rewarded at the end of boss fights, but some may also be found tucked away in secret areas. Finding all the Gourd Seeds will increase the amount of times you can use your Healing Gourd to 10, ensuring you stay in the fight for longer.

Gourd Seed 1

The first Gourd Seed is found after defeating General Naomori Kawaranda in the Ashina Outskirts at the Gate Path. Before this fight, finding a Gourd Seed is going to be challenging and most of the next encounters are made significantly easier with two Healing Gourds.

Defeat General Naomori Kawarada to receive your first Gourd Seed.

Gourd Seed 2

The next Gourd Seed is found after defeating the Chained Ogre in Ashina Outskirts at the Stairway. Enter the building behind where the ogre was secured via the hole in the wall. Walk left down the corridor and into the next room. Collect the item off the ground to find the Gourd Seed.

Enter the corridor above the Chained Ogre and turn left to find another Gourd Seed at the end of the hall.

Gourd Seed 3

This Gourd Seed can be purchased from the Memorial Mob after defeating Gyoubu Oniwa in Ashina Outskirts at the Ashina Castle Gate Fortress. The Gourd sells for 1,000 sen, so use any coin purses you’ve collected thus far if you need to. To find the Memorial Mob, stand at the Sculptor's Idol after the Gyoubu fight and instead of opening the door, turn around and go up the stairs across the battlfield. Don't go inside the building, go around the outside to find a tent with the merchant sitting inside.

Gourd Seed 4

A Gourd Seed can be found in a temple in the Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo region. Using the first Sculptor’s Idol, make your way through the forest to the temple up the back. Climb into the temple through the hole in the roof and go inside. There will be three monks praying at a shrine, the Gourd Seed is sitting in front of them.

Gourd Seed 5

Another Gourd Seed can be found in the Upper Tower – Antechamber of the Ashina Castle, in a chest near the idol. To reach this idol, start at the Ashina Castle idol and pass through the gate. Instead of going up the stairs, turn right and use the grapple point. Grapple along the rooftops along the right-side, working your way up to the main building. Once on the main building, run around the left side to the back and grapple up into a window.

Gourd Seed 6

A Gourd Seed can be found in the Sunken Valley. From the Under-Shrine Valley Sculptor’s Idol, drop down to the lower ledges and jump across the gap to the shooter. Go through the tunnel, grapple the tree on the left and then the next one. Instead of jumping down to the shiny object on the right, turn left and climb the wall. Walk through the small tunnel and grapple to the other side of the canyon. Climb the wall to your left to find a tent, in the alcove beside it is the gourd.

Gourd Seed 7

This Gourd Seed is sold by Fujioka the Info Broker, a merchant that can be helped in Ashina Castle. From the Ashina Castle Sculptor’s Idol, go up the steps ahead where the soldiers and mini-boss stand and then turn right down the alley. Look for the ground that is completely eroded. Instead of jumping down to the lowest level, look for the thin alley with a man sitting down. Speak to him to get a quest, he wants you to kill the samurai in the area. Thankfully, this does not include the mini-boss. Jump down to the lower area and kill any samurai you encounter in the immediate area and around the corner. Return to Fujioka and he will give you a reward and move to the Dilapidated Temple. Speak with him at the Dilapidated Temple to buy the Gourd Seed for 2000 sen.
