What is a Collector Synth in Destiny 2?

Published , by Josh Hawkins

The Collector Synth is just one of four possible items that players can acquire and use to unlock special gear in The Reckoning. In this guide we’ll go over everything you need to know, including what a Collector Synth is, how you can get your hands on more, and even how you use the Collector Synth in Destiny 2: Season of the Drifter.

What is a Collector Synth?

If you’ve acquired a Collector Synth, then you’ve probably found yourself scratching your head, trying to figure out what this new item is. The Collector Synth is just one of four new items that players can acquire in Joker’s Wild. When combined with the Weak Synthesizer, you can use the Collector Synth to create a Weak Collector Mote.

You can see the Collector Synth in the Consumables section of your inventory in Destiny 2.

Basically, the Collector Synth, like the Invader Synth and the Sentry Synth can be used to create special motes. These motes can then be used inside of The Reckoning’s bank to create an activity. If you complete the event within the given time, you’ll be rewarded with a piece of Gambit Prime armor, which grants you special perks when you wear multiple pieces of each set. You can also use the Collector Synth directly from your inventory to increase your armor's set bonus by +3 for 30 minutes. This will allow you to gain access to higher-tier perks without equipping more armor pieces.

How to get a Collector Synth

If you’re planning on unlocking the complete Collector Gambit Prime set, then you’re going to need to be ready to put in some work. There are a few different ways you can acquire the Collector Synths that you need, though, which means you have a few options.

This is just one piece of Gambit Prime armor the Collector Synth can allow you to acquire.

You can unlock The Recluse pinnacle weapon  and add it to your arsenal right now in Destiny 2.

The first way you can get your hands on more Collector Synths is to complete the new daily Gambit Prime bounties that The Drifter has to offer. These will reward you with specific synths for your trouble, so make sure you focus the bounties that give you Collector Synths. You can also randomly obtain synths from playing games of Gambit Prime and taking part in The Reckoning. Anytime you play through an activity in The Reckoning that you didn’t start—meaning you didn’t put the mote in to kick the event off—you will be rewarded with a random synth. Of course, there’s no way to tell what kind of synth you will get, but it’s still a good way to practice the event and stock up on the different items.

Make sure you’re actively farming for Collector Synths so you can complete your Gambit Prime armor set. You should also head back over to our complete Destiny 2 strategy guide to find more helpful content centered around The Black Armory, Joker’s Wild, and the rest of Destiny 2’s DLC.
