THQ Nordic is continuing its recent acquisition spree with the addition of Warhorse Studios, the developer behind the 2018 RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance to its portfolio.

The deal, worth $37.53 million, is big news for the Kingdom Come: Deliverance studio, which has been doing quite well for itself. Warhorse is located in Prague in the Czech Republic, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance was the studio's debut game. It came to fruition after a Kickstarter for the title quickly raised over $1.24 million in 2014. The game ended up selling a whopping 2 million copies, which is an impressive feat for a smaller studio to begin with.

“Becoming part of THQ Nordic family is an important milestone for our studio,” said Warhorse chief executive officer Martin Frývalský. “We began as a small start-up with a handful of employees who were enthusiastic enough to join this challenging project. The skills of our team members, trust and support of our main investor and passion of our fans, who supported development of Kingdom Come: Deliverance through a Kickstarter campaign, helped us grow to an international level. We believe that backing by THQ Nordic will give us an extra push in our mission to bring exciting games to our customers and extend the frontiers of the gaming industry.”

Warhorse Studios will be THQ Nordic's first studio in the Czech Republic as it continues snapping up games and studios left and right. Recently, it grabbed TimeSplitters, Kingdoms of Amateur, and developer Coffee Stain, responsible for Goat Simulator. All these money moves have been positioning THQ Nordic to be a major publisher, restoring it to its former glory from the olden days.

It remains to be seen why THQ Nordic is building up all this momentum or if it's planning to create some sort of major new IP, but it's going to be interesting to see how the company performs in the coming months.
