Serving as another clever tribute to the lush history of the company, Nintendo has announced a spirit board event for Nintendo Switch's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The "Now You're Playing With Spirit Power" board will feature spirits inspired by characters that were on the NES/Famicom. The event goes live on January 4, 2019.

GoNintendo reported the event, which was revealed on the official Japanese Super Smash Bros Twitter account. During this special occasion, spirits will be appearing more frequently than normal, which gives players more of an opportunity to see the large collection.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a massive crossover of properties already with the largest roster the series has ever seen. It incorporates all of the characters from previous entries and brand new fighters and echo fighters from various properties. On top of that, the Spirits add another layer by including even more fan-favorite characters in a way where they support players as a replacement for the trophy system. They fall into four primary types and you can learn more in our guide on how to unlock and use Spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Classic Donkey Kong and Excitebike are teased in the promotional image for the Now Your Playing With Spirit Power Board, but there's certainly a lot of unknown treasures to find during the event. Hopefully, Shackers will be sharing their own discoveries in Chatty.

This is likely just the start of special events for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Being such an incredible crossover, Nintendo devs will never be short of content they can tap even well beyond the historic Nintendo consoles alone. The characters featured in the game reach all across gaming and engage with players new and old.
