A streamer with acute Tourette's has received partnership on Twitch. Sweet_Anita announced the accomplishment on November 17, 2018, but had actually received the email on October 31.
Dexerto reports that not only did Anita get approved, she did so only five days after submitting her application. Typically, it takes three to four weeks for an update on Twitch partner status. Understandably so, she doubted her chances to reach partner. Tourette Syndrome is a type of tic disorder and her acute Tourette syndrome results in some fairly inappropriate involuntary outbursts.
Like Microsoft reminded us in its recent Reindeer Games ad, "When everybody plays, we all win." This is an incredible accomplishment for Sweet_Anita and will hopefully serve as a beacon for other content creators in the world. Since reaching this major milestone, Anita has been getting a lot of new faces in her live streams. She currently has over 180,000 followers on Twitch as well. She was approved on October 31, but her clips were going viral on Reddit earlier in the month.
Anita experiences both motor and vocal/phonic tics and the official webpage for Tourette Association of America describes them as follows:
Motor Tics
Motor tics are movements. Simple motor tics include but are not limited to: eye blinking, facial grimacing, jaw movements, head bobbing/jerking, shoulder shrugging, neck stretching, and arm jerking. Complex motor tics involve multiple muscle groups or combinations of movements and tend to be slower and more purposeful in appearance,(e.g., hopping, twirling, jumping).Vocal/Phonic Tics
Vocal (phonic) tics produce a sound. Simple vocal tics include but are not limited to sniffing, throat clearing, grunting, hooting, and shouting. Complex vocal tics are words or phrases that may or may not be recognizable but that consistently occur out of context. In 10-15% of cases, the words may be inappropriate (i.e., swear words, ethnic slurs, or other socially unacceptable words or phrases). This type of vocal tic, called coprolalia, is often portrayed or mocked in the media as a common symptom of TS.
Anita and other creators like her get to share the spotlight at events like TwitchCon, which will be expanding into Europe in 2019. The company made the decision based on its centralized location and Germany's status as one of the "top performing countries in terms of both streamers and viewership."
