New Battlefield 5 battle royale trailer closes players in a ring of fire

Love them or hate them, the battle royale game mode and genre are exceptionally popular right now. A battle royale mode wasn't ruled out when Dice officially revealed Battlefield 5 earlier this year and then, at E3 2018, the team outright stated it was coming. We don't know the full scope of the mode in Battlefield 5, but we at least know what will be closing players into a tighter area of conflict: A ring of fire.

For those unfamiliar, battle royale experiences start out with players spawning onto a large map. After everyone hits the battlefield, a limited area, typically a circle, is highlighted and players must get to that enclosed area before some sort of dangerous element starts to chip away at the player's health if they're outside of the designated area.

In the Gamescom trailer for Battlefield 5, the video concludes with a tease for the upcoming battle royale mode. There's a frightened soldier, a rampaging tank, and a shrinking of rolling flames closing in and it equates to an intense reveal. Hopefully, more information will be revealed in the coming days.
