Studio director Tim Willits on Rage 2 multiplayer: 'We have some community things'

Bethesda had all hands on deck for QuakeCon 2018, discussing The Elder Scrolls Online and Legends, Doom Eternal, Fallout 76, and Rage 2. There were a few roundtables for the titles on display and, during the discussion about Rage 2, a question about multiplayer was tossed out.

"So it's a single-player game," studio director Tim Willits says in response to the multiplayer question during the Rage 2 roundtable at QuakeCon 2018. "We feel that we are offering many hours of gameplay for the money, but we want to have a longer tail on the game. We will have some free updates, we'll have some paid updates, we'll have some community things so you kinda feel like you're in a community."

The feeling from his statement is that the game will be fully focused on single-player at launch, but there's potential that multiplayer modes of some kind could be added post-launch. He didn't expound on the community features during the roundtable and the potential there is as open as the world players will get to explore when Rage 2 in 2019. There's racing in the game, so, at the least, I could imagine players around the world setting times for the various routes in the game. In my own opinion, similar community experiences to that will pepper the single-player open world.
