BioShock 2 ditches GFWL for Steamworks, Minerva's Den free for current owners

Now Microsoft has shut down Games for Windows Live, what happens to the one use anyone had for it--buying the Minerva's Den DLC for BioShock 2? Thankfully 2K has switched over to Steamworks, updating the game and very nicely giving the add-on free to everyone who already owned the base game. For goodness' sake, play it if you haven't already.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 most-played Xbox 360 game in 2012

To tie 2012 up all nice with a bow before burying it in the woods out back, Microsoft has revealed the most popular Xbox Live, Xbox Live Arcade, Xbox Live Indie Games, and Games for Windows Live titles from that dead year, dead dead dead dead. Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the most-played Live game, while, you've guessed it, Minecraft topped XBLA.

Toy Soldiers now available without Games for Windows Live

Games for Windows Live seems, thankfully, to be on its last legs. Most games with Microsoft's system nowadays are straightforward ports from Xbox 360, using GFWL to directly replace identical Xbox Live functionality. One such port, Signal Studios' tower defense Toy Soldiers, now delightfully gives you the option to play a new version using Valve's superior Steamworks, or to stick with the old GFWL one.
