Well this fucking sucks. Woke up at 2am and heard my cat Scraps crying out. Took him to the 24 hour emergency vet immediately to find out what was going on. He had fluid in his lungs so they were gonna give him a diuretic to help suck the fluid out. But he later went into cardiac arrest and they couldn't resuscitate with CPR after 15 min.

The worst part besides losing him is he showed no signs that anything was wrong. He had regular vet visits and we knew about his heart murmur, which was being checked every time he went to the vet. It just came on so fast.

    Fuck I'm gonna miss him.

My little brother Drchook/granpachook passed away Sunday night. He was 38.

    https://www.shacknews.com/chatty?id=42140968#item_42140968

We thought he had more time. He deserved more time. Unfortunately, he reached his breaking point with the chemo cycle, and once he stopped his decline was incredibly sharp.

Until Sunday we were pretty much inseparable. He lived here in Michigan the last several years just to be nearby. In one of his last lucid moments he saw me sitting by him and reached out to give me a hug and told me he loved me. It was an unbelievable gift that I was lucky to receive, just like I was lucky to have known him and lucky to be his big brother. That is the kind of person he was, putting others' needs and feelings above his own.

He loved video games, and slaughtered stuff like FTL (some of you may have read the extensive guide he posted for that some years ago), Slay the Spire etc. He and I shared a love for Final Fantasy. He considered it a responsibility of his to play and complete every FF game. He was too sick to finish FF16, so he watched as I completed his save for him. A game where (incredibly huge spoilers) an older brother watches his little brother die at the end of the game. I'll be carrying on that tradition for him, starting with "Rebirth" next year. The universe is a strange place.

I know some other Shackers have been diagnosed this year and my heart goes out to you and your families, I wish you all the very best.

RIP Jake, I love you man.

We put to sleep our 15 year old dog yesterday. Like Tina Turner said, you’re simply the best.
