New Harry Potter game to be based on 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

The Harry Potter saga may be over, but that doesn't mean Hollywood won't look for other ways to cash in on the franchise. Warner Bros has announced "an expanded creative partnership" with J.K. Rowling that will see the release of yet another movie based on her wizarding world. The upcoming film will be based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and the adventures of the book's fictional author, Newt Scamander. This is the first in a new movie series.

Unsurprisingly, the new film will lead to new games and other "consumer products."

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate trailer reveals a familiar setup

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate trailer reveals a familiar setup

There's actually two Batman: Arkham games coming out this year. If you forgot about Blackgate for 3DS and Vita, a new trailer from Warner Bros will freshen up your memory. Developed by Armature, this 2.5D adventure follows the events of Origins and has Batman once again cleaning up a mess left behind in one of Gotham's prisons. Like earlier entries in the series, the Caped Crusader will have to go against familiar faces from the Rogues Gallery, including Catwoman and Solomon Grundy. It may seem a bit familiar, but going against supervillains trapped in a Metroidvania-esque prison complex is precisely what Batman does best.

Watch: Yep, Gotham's prisons are still not doing their job »

Dying Light's 'Be the Zombie' PvP multiplayer mode locked away to pre-orders

Dying Light's 'Be the Zombie' PvP multiplayer mode locked away to pre-orders

Dying Light certainly looks and sounds interesting. Although it's yet another zombie game from Dead Island dev Techland, the integration of parkour into first-person combat offers the genre some much-needed freshness.

While little is known about the game, publisher WBIE has announced pre-order bonuses for the title. By reserving the game, players will get access to the "Be the Zombie" multiplayer mode at launch. Presumably, everyone else will have to wait to buy it as add-on content later down the line.

Dying Light trailer: 12 minutes of parkour and zombies

Dying Light trailer: 12 minutes of parkour and zombies

Dying Light's premise of "parkour with zombies" may sound more fun than, well, most zombie games anyway, but how does it actually look in practice? A 12-minute "gameplay" trailer shows Dead Island creator Techland does have something interesting here, with wonky combat on top of that something interesting for some reason or another.

Batman: Arkham Origins' $120 Collector's Edition revealed

Ha! You thought the $100 Collector's Edition for Arkham City was impressive? Warner Bros has created an even-bigger CE for Arkham Origins. Based on MSRP alone, it's about 20% cooler.

Coming October 25, the the $120 Collector's Edition is exclusive to Xbox 360 and PS3. (Sorry, PC and Wii U players.) The centerpiece is undoubtedly the TriForce-produced statue starring the Joker. But, there's a long list of other extras included in the box.

Why Batman feels irrelevant in Arkham Origin's new multiplayer mode

Why Batman feels irrelevant in Arkham Origin's new multiplayer mode

Imagine, for a moment, that you're a thug in Joker's gang. Upon receiving word of a prison break at Arkham, you're dispatched to aid the rioters and pick up as many prisoners as possible. Just one problem: Batman is in the area too.

Batman. That one name ought to scare the hell out of any low-level supervillain mook. And sure enough, when you hear the familiar flutter of the cape behind you, your heart is pounding. But then... Batman misses. He hits the ground awkwardly, then turns around and starts running away. Hardly able to believe your luck, you raise your gun and promptly put a dozen bullets in the Dark Knight's back.

Batman: Arkham Origins has 3v3v2 multiplayer mode

Batman: Arkham Origins has 3v3v2 multiplayer mode

Batman: Arkham Origins will have online multiplayer. You're now free to debate the merits of this decision.

The multiplayer portion of Origins is called "Invisible Predator Online," and is being co-developed by Splash Damage, best known for their work on Brink. In this competitive mode, a group of three Joker thugs will be fighting a group of three Bane thugs. However, there's a wrinkle in what would otherwise be a standard team deathmatch affair: Batman, of course.

Copperhead joins assassins roster of Batman: Arkham Origins

Copperhead joins assassins roster of Batman: Arkham Origins

In Batman: Arkham Origins, the Dark Knight is being hunted by eight assassins. At San Diego Comic-Con, developer WB Montreal revealed yet another part of that deadly roster.

Copperhead is a contortionist and she shows off her flexibility in a brand new trailer. Yes, although the character has traditionally been male, in the Arkhamverse, Copperhead is a scantily-clad female that slithers around the environment and poisons her prey. Like a snake. Get it?

General Zod coming to Injustice: Gods Among Us in July

The DLC train continues for Injustice: Gods Among Us. General Zod will be available to download come July, Conan O'Brien oddly announced (via Joystiq).

General Zod has appeared frequently as a super villain in the Superman films. As a Kryptonian, he has the same powers as Superman (but does that mean he'll just be a character re-skin?). He also appears as the main villain of Man of Steel, which probably explains the summer release of this add-on character.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate preview: shadow of a doubt

Batman: Arkham Origins may be headed up by a new team while the series creator is up to mysterious doings, but it bears the general hallmarks of Rocksteady's own work. The handheld spin-off Blackgate, by comparison, is a wholly different animal, borrowing pieces of its elder siblings and attempting to fit them onto a handheld in a cohesive way.
