StarCraft classic soundtrack coming to SC2

StarCraft classic soundtrack coming to SC2

For anyone who played a lot of StarCraft (or watched it played professionally), the RTS's soundtrack is a permanent fixture in their head, seared into ear canals like spiral soundwaves on a record and played by your fingernail every time you root around in there. Delightfully, Blizzard has remastered the hot tracks, and will add them into StarCraft II with patch 2.1.

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void still finding right fit for Protoss

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void still finding right fit for Protoss

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void will finish the planned trilogy of SC2 games, whenever it comes out. Blizzard was notably quiet about the third installment at BlizzCon last weekend, and game director Dustin Browder says that's because it still needs work. Apparently, the team is working to nail down the proper feeling of empowerment for the Protoss race.

StarCraft Universe mod seeks Kickstarter funds

StarCraft Universe mod seeks Kickstarter funds

Mod group Upheaval Arts wants crowdfunded support to finish making StarCraft Universe, a mod that transforms StarCraft 2 into a multiplayer online RPG. (It was originally named World of StarCraft.)

SCU is set in an alternate reality, where Kerrigan is unable to stop the hybrid's assault, leaving the Protoss defeated. It's all being done with Blizzard's "blessing/permission" as well.

StarCraft 2 now allows 'spawning' for friends without game

Blizzard has been allowing players to get a limited StarCraft 2 experience for free for quite some time now with its Starter Edition, but now players who don't want to shell out cash for the full game can get an upgraded experience as long as they have a friend who isn't so stingy with the cash.

Celebrate StarCraft's 15th birthday with retro portraits for SC2

Celebrate StarCraft's 15th birthday with retro portraits for SC2

StarCraft turns 15 today and, to celebrate the big day, Blizzard will hand out special retro portraits to StarCraft II players. The faces from the original game's box art, once so fearsome and stunningly realistic but now a bit goofy and so plainly CG, can grace your SC profile if you play at least one online game in the next few weeks.

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void to have 'Seven Samurai' elements

With StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm already bringing out the aggressive nature of the Zerg, Blizzard has started to turn its attention to the final chapter in the trilogy, Legacy of the Void. The theme of that last installment--focused on the Protoss--can probably be best summed up in one word: desperation.

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm bringing out 'super aggressive play'

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm multiplayer review: push the tempo

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm multiplayer review: push the tempo

Heart of the Swarm is arriving just in time to save StarCraft 2. After three years of experimentation it is only recently that players have truly solved the game. The so-called meta-game (the growth and shift of popular strategies over time) has finally stagnated, and most dedicated players know the best build orders and exactly how to respond to certain threats.

HotS promises to mix up that paradigm for at least a couple of years. The new and tweaked units that Blizzard has brought into the fray have an outsized effect, and actually manage to change the feel of the game in substantial ways.
