SingStar to be completely redesigned for free-to-play later this year
SingStar may already be available as a free-to-play app on PlayStation 3, but it isn't much more than a glorified storefront to download songs. That's merely the first phase in Sony's plans to transform the SingStar brand.

Guitar Hero has been axed. Harmonix has stopped development on Rock Band and Dance Central. For the most part, it seems as though the music genre has contracted. However, one game has managed to drunkenly stumble into success: SingStar.

A new SingStar app can be downloaded to the XMB with no need for a disc. In fact, there's no need for a SingStar microphone either, as the new app has been designed to work with any USB microphone.
