Viscera Cleanup Detail tackles Shadow Warrior bloodbath

What happens after the Shadow Warrior Lo Wang sweeps through a building, lopping off limbs and showering everything with blood? Why, someone calls the Viscera Cleanup Detail, of course. Devolver Digital has released a special version of RuneStorm's mop 'em up for owners of the bleed 'em up, letting you clean up Wang's mess.

Shadow Warrior gets Wang out on September 26

If you were concerned about the Shadow Warrior reboot toning down the racism, hey, chin up you silly sausage: it still cracks jokes about how the hero's surname is Wang. 2 (two) such jokes feature in a new trailer fresh out of Gamescom, which also reveals the FPS will arrive on September 26.

Shadow Warrior preview: fresh cut

Shadow Warrior preview: fresh cut

"You've got Wang." These are the words that greeted me at the start of the closed E3 demo for Shadow Warrior. Right there, I had a feeling that Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog's reboot of the 1998 original understood the essence of what made it such a cult classic.

How an 'immature smartass' helps Shadow Warrior reboot

How an 'immature smartass' helps Shadow Warrior reboot

Devolver Digital surprised many with their announcement that they'd be reviving the long-dormant Shadow Warrior franchise. After all, it wasn't the most fondly remembered game, as the 1997 first-person action game was more recognized for racist caricatures and outdated stereotypes. However, Devolver and Hard Reset developer Flying Wild Hog says that their reboot will be a complete reinvention and will start with a clean slate.

"The teams at Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital were big fans of the original game," said Devolver Digital's Nigel Lowrie. "It brought some great gameplay innovations and a really unique setting and aesthetic to shooters. We think it would be incredible to reinvent the Shadow Warrior world in a modern arcade-style shooter with some new combat innovations of our own that expand upon what was started in the original game."

Shadow Warrior trailer reveals 'reimagining'

Shadow Warrior trailer reveals 'reimagining'

The announcement of Shadow Warrior was a pretty low-key affair, really just a teaser site and a short blurb. Today's the big day Hard Reset developer Flying Wild Hog and publisher Devolver Digital finally lifted the wraps off their "total reimagining" of 3D Realms' classic FPS of the same name and, well, they don't reveal much but it's certainly looking pretty.

Hard Reset review

Flying Wild Hog are no strangers to shooters. The studio is largely comprised of former designers from People Can Fly, the developers behind Painkiller and the more-recent Bulletstorm. So it’s no surprise that Flying Wild Hog has arrived on the gaming scene, guns blazing, with Hard Reset.

Hard Reset takes place in a dystopian future, where machines have taken over and humanity is largely in hiding. While Hard Reset’s story is set in the future, the gameplay mechanics are inspired by the past.

Hard Reset demo available now

In advance of its release next week, a Hard Reset demo hit the Net to offer a taste of its cyberpunk styled robot-blasting action. The veteran PC developers at Flying Wild Hog have put together a good looking game that definitely taps that old-school PC shooter vibe. But don't take my word for it, give the demo a try. It offers around 20 to 30 minutes worth of action, giving you time to play around with the game's weapon customization system, and search around for hidden areas. You can grab the standalone demo from our link above or from Steam.
