Zoo Tycoon (Xbox One) review: Zoo Impossible

Zoo Tycoon (Xbox One) review: Zoo Impossible

Have you ever watched Restaurant Impossible? The Food Network series has a chef walking into a failing restaurant screaming "what is wrong with you" and then attempts to fix it up. Zoo Tyccon for Xbox One is pretty much that game--but with zoos, of course. Kinectimals creator Frontier Developments caught my attention with a game that promised "Tycoon" style sim management and, yes, the ability to play with adorable animals. What I didn't expect was how deep and satisfying the sim would be.

Weekend Confirmed 190 - Call of Duty: Ghosts, Xbox One

The 190th episode of Weekend Confirmed comes to you in full 1080p! With co-host Jeff Cannata away for the week, host Garnett Lee invites the Shacknews tandem of Andrew Yoon and Ozzie Mejia, along with Christian Spicer, to discuss the imminent arrival of Xbox One. But first, discussion turns to Call of Duty: Ghosts, talking about the series' growing sense of stagnation and whether it's necessarily a problem that can be solved or even one worth solving at all. After that, Andrew catches up on all things Xbox One, including games like Zoo Tycoon, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Dead Rising 3, while also making a convincing case for why the packed-in Kinect peripheral matters. The show wraps up with Christian's impressions of the other major Batman game to release, the handheld Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, before everyone goes into Finishing Moves and the post-show Tailgate.

Zoo Tycoon (Xbox One) preview: playing with animals

Zoo Tycoon (Xbox One) preview: playing with animals

It's been nearly a decade since the last proper Zoo Tycoon game came out. One has to wonder: why? There's something so satisfying about building a zoo and taking care of animals.

The new Zoo Tycoon for Xbox One comes from Kinectimals developer Frontier Developments. Their approach is to give players two kinds of experiences with the rebooted game: the macro game for sim purists, and an on-the-ground game for people that simply want to interact with cute animals. Offering both methods of play gives Zoo Tycoon the depth that Kinectimals never had, while giving the game the "isn't that so precious" moments that the original games could never realize.

Zoo Tycoon coming to Xbox One and 360 from Kinectimals dev

Microsoft is drawing Zoo Tycoon back from extinction, revealing during E3 that it's brought the zoo management series back for Xbox One and Xbox 360. As one might expect from Kinectimals creator Frontier Developments, the new game also named simply Zoo Tycoon plays up the 'staring at cute animals' side even more, and disconcertingly this may be the main focus.
