XCOM: Enemy Within trailer reveals human rivals EXALT

Oh, how ruddy marvellous! As if aliens attacking our cities and murdering our citizens weren't trouble enough, now a mysterious rogue human organisation named EXALT is stirring trouble too. They'll spread dissent in XCOM: Enemy Unknown's expansion Enemy Within, 2K has revealed, until you hunt them down in new mission types--including a base invasion.

XCOM from aliens' perspective would be complicated, says Firaxis

XCOM from aliens' perspective would be complicated, says Firaxis

With XCOM: Enemy Unknown having done well for itself last year and the upcoming Enemy Within expansion, the XCOM series has plumbed the depths of a human fight and even incorporated some alien tech. The next logical step would seem to be showing us the war from the alien point-of-view, but Firaxis' Anada Gupta says it's much more complicated than it seems. Mainly, that's because he wouldn't want to simply replace human components with alien ones.

XCOM: Enemy Within trailer shows 5 minutes of gameplay

Grenades spitting needles, snipers leaping meters into the air, punching aliens to death with your mechsuit, and other treats are shown off in a five-minute narrated gameplay trailer for XCOM: Enemy Unknown's expansion Enemy Within. Yes, it's a very scripted demo, but mechsuit.

XCOM: Enemy Within has you punching aliens with mechs

The upcoming Enemy Within expansion for XCOM: Enemy Unknown adds a bevvy of new features for players to tinker around with. However, there's one primary takeaway fans have become fixated on: the ability to punch aliens with mechs.

Enemy Within is a true Firaxis-style expansion for Enemy Unknown, adding new abilities and enemies to the core game, rather than expanding the narrative with a new epilogue. That means you'll have to start your fight anew to access the new content--much like EU's previous DLC offerings.

New XCOM game in the works, 2K Games confirms

2K Games has announced plans to announce a new XCOM game at Gamescom. Sure, that's a silly thing, but there are many clues as to what the announcement will be.

It's almost certainly a follow-up to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, as the South Korean ratings board has surfaced a new game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC called XCOM: Enemy Within. But will it be an expansion pack, or a full-on sequel?

Mobile review: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Mobile review: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

With XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Firaxis and 2K Games were faced with a challenge greater than an alien invasion: taking a blockbuster AAA game and converting it to an iPad. I loved the idea, but wasn't sure if such a thing could be done. After playing through the iOS version for myself, I can say that the essence of the original is fully intact.

Interview: Why XCOM: Enemy Unknown is such a 'good fit' for mobile

After playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown on iPad, we decided that it was "made for mobile." Perhaps unsurprisingly, turn-based strategy works incredibly well on the touch screen. XCOM: Enemy Unknown iOS preview: made for mobile

It seems a no-brainer to port a strategy game like XCOM: Enemy Unknown to the mobile environment. Porting it to iOS without compromising the original experience, however, is the true measure of its success. How original X-COM creator would have made Enemy Unknown (and failed)

Original X-COM creator Julian Gollop has played through XCOM: Enemy Unknown and found it to be a great and entertaining game (as we did). But that doesn't mean he wouldn't have done some things differently, and probably failed in the process.
