Homeworld Remastered collector's edition will include 12" replica Mothership

Gearbox Software is making a collector's edition for its upcoming Homeworld Remastered. And it will actually be limited, with only a few thousand units being produced.

The collector's edition will include a 12" hand-decorated ABS resin Mothership with LED lights powered by either USB or an AC adapter. According to the game's official site, this CE will go for around $100.

Gearbox has begun sharing more details on its Homeworld remakes, stating that the scope of the project has gone above a simple re-release. The studio has also created a survey to gauge interest in proposed Collector's Editions.

Gearbox is throwing yet another Community Day next week in Texas. But if you can't make it to Dallas on September 14th, you'll still be able to partake digitally and score some swag in the process as well.

The developer plans on selling a "Digital Bonus Pack" that offers full access to the event's HD stream and all the digital goodies that attendees of the real-world event will get. For $19.99, you'll be able to get SHiFT codes for Borderlands 2, access to the closed beta of a future Gearbox title, and a free copy of Homeworld HD.

Homeworld & Homeworld 2 HD remakes coming from Gearbox

Gearbox snagged the Homeworld IP when THQ was dismantled. The company shelled $1.35 million out for the rights--so what do they plan on doing?

First up, Gearbox plans on releasing HD remakes of Relic Entertainment's Homeworld and Homeworld 2, the studio announced at a panel at PAX Australia. The remakes will be available on PC.

The Homeworld IP has changed hands, no longer resting in the pile of leftovers from the THQ bankruptcy. We don't know yet who the winning bidder was, just that it wasn't app developer teamPixel.

The studio had hoped to create a Homeworld Touch game for iOS, bring the original games to digital distribution, and begin work on Homeworld 3.

App developer requests crowdfunding for Homeworld franchise

Relic Entertainment was among the studios picked up in yesterday's THQ auction announcements, having been acquired by Sega. The Homeworld franchise pioneered by Relic, on the other hand, apparently wasn't part of the deal. As a result, mobile studio teamPixel has started a crowd-funding campaign to purchase the IP.
