As EA Sports UFC moves along towards its spring release date, many fans are curious if the Fight Night team will be capable of taking over from THQ and Yukes. A new video attempts to make their case.

The video features a number of popular fighters from the league, including Ronda Rousey, Anthony Pettis, Georges St-Pierre, Chuck Liddell and Jon "Bones" Jones.

Alexander Gustafsson joins Jon Jones on the EA Sports UFC cover

EA had previously announced that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon 'Bones' Jones, would grace the cover of EA Sports UFC. But there's one more fighter that will join Jones on the cover, determined by over 11 million fan votes. Coincidentally, fans voted for Alexander 'The Mauler' Gustafsson, who squared off against (and, whom many will argue, beat) Jones in September.

THQ files suit against EA and UFC parent company

THQ may be out as a publisher, but what remains of the company is still working through bits of legal action. It has filed suit against both Electronic Arts and UFC parent company Zuffa, claiming that the two worked together to end THQ's agreement with UFC and transfer it to EA.

EA Sports UFC debuts female fighters

EA Sports UFC debuts female fighters

The presence of female fighters has vastly increased at UFC over the past couple of years. Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche became the first female fighters to headline a UFC card earlier this year and Rousey and rival Miesha Tate are slated to be the first female coaches for the long-running reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. So it makes sense that the hard-hitting ladies of the Octagon would be included in the upcoming EA Sports UFC.

EA Sports UFC preview: next-gen tech-downs

EA Sports UFC preview: next-gen tech-downs

When THQ crumbled, so too did its excellent UFC Undisputed series. Developer Yukes successfully adapted many of the nuances of the sport of MMA, and seeing EA take over the UFC license was met with a bit of skepticism--especially after EA Sports MMA failed to make its mark.

A new generation means brand new tech, and EA Sports UFC is taking full advantage of the company's new Ignite engine. At this year's E3, EA Sports focused almost entirely on the tech running the game, rather than showing actual gameplay. However, what they showcased was so impressive that it made me excited for the potential of their take on MMA.

EA Sports UFC coming to PS4 and Xbox One in spring 2014

EA Sports' upcoming UFC game will be available in Spring 2014 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the company has announced at its press conference. Running on the EA Sports Ignite engine, the upcoming brawler looks more like Fight Night than the Undisputed games previously developed by Yukes.

"We are very excited to deliver the most realistic fighting experience ever achieved," EA Sports GM Dean Richards said in a press release. And realism is what the game is all about, as evidenced by the promise of real-time vein popping, skin discoloration, and a full-body deformation system that "displaces the fighter's flesh in real time." Yuck.
