How Dying Light allows full freedom of movement

How Dying Light allows full freedom of movement

Techland has previously showed off Dying Light's parkour moves, lighting engine, and overall narrative. So when the developer took the stage at EGX Rezzed, the objective was to talk about the game's open world and how it would aim for a truly open experience by removing all invisible barriers.

Dying Light trailer questions your humanity

Dying Light trailer questions your humanity

Living in a world overrun by zombies is pretty bad, entertainment media would have us believe. Rather than simply embrace the futility of life and welcome death's warm embrace with a smile, we're to think, we'd sink lower and lower and lose more and more of ourselves. A new Dying Light trailer takes this dubious stance, asking what happens to humanity after the fall of civilisation in the Dead Island creator's first-person parkour-o-shooter.

Dying Light trailer shows 10 minutes of gameplay

Dying Light trailer shows 10 minutes of gameplay

Dying Light may be yet another open-world zombie game from Techland, but the Dead Island creator seems to be trying something a little different this time. Rather than simply mowing down hordes of zombies, players will be more inclined to run away and dodge the corpses, using fancy parkour skills, as a new 10-minute gameplay trailer demonstrates.

Dying Light trailer shows off 'next-gen' lighting

Dying Light trailer shows off 'next-gen' lighting

If you were boasting about using "the muscle of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One" to deliver a "truly next-gen experience," you'd want to really show it off, wouldn't you? Dying Light is a bit shy, apparently. A new trailer created to show off the shiny "physically based lighting system" in developer Techland's new open-world zombie 'em up only has thirty seconds of in-engine footage, though it certainly is pretty.

Dying Light's 'Be the Zombie' PvP multiplayer mode locked away to pre-orders

Dying Light's 'Be the Zombie' PvP multiplayer mode locked away to pre-orders

Dying Light certainly looks and sounds interesting. Although it's yet another zombie game from Dead Island dev Techland, the integration of parkour into first-person combat offers the genre some much-needed freshness.

While little is known about the game, publisher WBIE has announced pre-order bonuses for the title. By reserving the game, players will get access to the "Be the Zombie" multiplayer mode at launch. Presumably, everyone else will have to wait to buy it as add-on content later down the line.

Dying Light trailer: 12 minutes of parkour and zombies

Dying Light trailer: 12 minutes of parkour and zombies

Dying Light's premise of "parkour with zombies" may sound more fun than, well, most zombie games anyway, but how does it actually look in practice? A 12-minute "gameplay" trailer shows Dead Island creator Techland does have something interesting here, with wonky combat on top of that something interesting for some reason or another.

Dying Light first trailer flees zombies

Killing zombies is so passé. Running away from zombies, that's the next big thing! Beatshapers is working on an undead endless runner with ZRun, and Dead Island creator Techland is going all parkour-y with Dying Light. The cinematic first trailer dropped today ahead of E3, showing that yes, both zombies and running around are themes.

Dying Light brings parkour to land of zombies

Dying Light brings parkour to land of zombies

Zombies are still in vogue, but it's surprising to see Dead Island developer Techland move onto an entirely different first-person zombie game. While Dead Island could be described as an undead take on The Elder Scrolls, their new game, Dying Light, could be quickly summed as Mirror's Edge with walkers.

Like in DICE's first-person running game, you'll very quickly run through the environment, leaping and vaulting over obstacles, and jumping onto poles, quite easily. However, you'll have a greater repertoire of moves than Faith ever did. While we didn't see any gunplay, we did see quite an impressive array of martial arts moves, with your character able to kick, jump kick, dodge to the side, and even perform a sweeping circular kick--all while remaining in first-person.
