After that, Andrew catches up on all things Xbox One, including games like Zoo Tycoon, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Dead Rising 3, while also making a convincing case for why the packed-in Kinect peripheral matters. The show wraps up with Christian's impressions of the other major Batman game to release, the handheld Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, before everyone goes into Finishing Moves and the post-show Tailgate.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate trailer reveals a familiar setup

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate trailer reveals a familiar setup

There's actually two Batman: Arkham games coming out this year. If you forgot about Blackgate for 3DS and Vita, a new trailer from Warner Bros will freshen up your memory. Developed by Armature, this 2.5D adventure follows the events of Origins and has Batman once again cleaning up a mess left behind in one of Gotham's prisons. Like earlier entries in the series, the Caped Crusader will have to go against familiar faces from the Rogues Gallery, including Catwoman and Solomon Grundy. It may seem a bit familiar, but going against supervillains trapped in a Metroidvania-esque prison complex is precisely what Batman does best.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate preview: shadow of a doubt

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate preview: shadow of a doubt

Batman: Arkham Origins may be headed up by a new team while the series creator is up to mysterious doings, but it bears the general hallmarks of Rocksteady's own work. The handheld spin-off Blackgate, by comparison, is a wholly different animal, borrowing pieces of its elder siblings and attempting to fit them onto a handheld in a cohesive way.

Batman played by Sonic the Hedgehog's voice actor in Arkham Origins

Batman: Arkham Origins takes place early into the career of the caped crusader. According to developer WB Montreal, Origins will show off a "rawer, scarier Batman." So, of course they got the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog to play Batman this time around. (We're not kidding.)

How Oldboy inspired Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for Vita and 3DS

How Oldboy inspired Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for Vita and 3DS

While all eyes may be on Batman: Arkham Origins, there's plenty reason to be excited about the 3DS/Vita spin-off game, Blackgate. Set after the events of Origins, the handheld game is being developed by Armature, a studio made up of veterans from Metroid Prime dev Retro Studios. Unlike the console game, Blackgate is a 2D Metroidvania game, which has Batman investigating the titular prison.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges of adapting the Arkham games to the second dimension is adjusting the well-received "FreeFlow" combat of Rocksteady's original games. Game director Mark Pacini says that Blackgate's combat needed to be built "from the ground up," and takes large inspiration from the 2003 Korean movie Oldboy.
