Solving on what now? Like on a rubik's cube?

        That's right.

How does starting position factor into solve time? are there certain starting positions that make you go faster?

For sure, although it depends on your skill level how far you can see ahead. In my case an obvious white cross is a good boost. World class solvers have the cross, corners and center pieces mostly worked out from the start.

I use CFOP like most speedsolvers.
CFOP method (cross, F2L, OLL, PLL) is a fast method for solving the Rubik's Cube created by Jessica Fridrich. It consists of four steps: Cross, F2L (First Two Layers), OLL (Orient Last Layer), and PLL (Permute Last Layer).

The single solve world record is 3.47 seconds. Think about that for a while.

That’s hot. Rubik’s cubes are the first speedrunning games.
