It was never going to be any other way. Season of the Haunted is shaping up to be one of my favorite seasons in Destiny 2 to just kick back, grind out some activities, and chase some great gear. There are a few factors making it a season I want to play and this has only happened a handful of times outside of major releases.

Let’s start big and then go smaller. The fact that Season of the Haunted focuses on the return of the Exiled Emperor Calus’ ship, the Leviathan, is awesome. I adored the Leviathan in the Destiny 2 base game and during Season of Opulence (one of the best seasons in Destiny 2), so it’s no surprise this latest season is hitting the right notes.

It’s not just the ship and weapons, it’s that we get to hear more from Calus. We get an insight into his mind through the new Duality dungeon, we get to hear him talk to us once more via his automatons, and all of it gives an insight into what nefarious things he’s been up to over the last four years.

One of the additions with this season that’s really gelling with my playstyle is the Nightmare Containment public event. It’s easy to sit back and focus on killing things. There’s not a whole lot of frontal lobe needed to get this thing done. I get the same level of enjoyment out of it that I did farming the Splicer event, Override. There’s basically no fail state like there was with the Astral Alignment activity during Season of the Lost.

Focusing in on the Tower, the stories that are unfolding there are intriguing. Seeing Crow redeem himself in the eyes of others is heart-warming. Bungie has done well to tackle difficult problems like trauma and mental anguish through its characters. It’s excellent storytelling. If Crow doesn’t become the head of the Hunters, we riot.

Even though I wasn’t impressed with Iron Banner’s first appearance since the major changes, all hope is not lost. A lot of the problems can be ironed out with fixes and pivots. Here’s hoping when it returns in July that I’ll be in a better position, because right now, I don’t see myself farming for any god rolls from the event.

I know we’ve got quite a few Destiny 2 players out there. How do you all feel about Season of the Haunted? If you see me online farming bounties to unlock that badass Reaper Title and armor set from the Season Pass, wave hello and help me clear the T3 boss.

Oh, and before I go, I’m coming around on Solar 3.0. I’m still gutted Warlock’s lost bottom tree, but I’m at least having fun with my Fusion Grenades. Hopefully we get some more Aspects after Arc 3.0 and the team gets a break.

The latest season in Destiny 2 is a great mid-expansion jaunt through reimagined content. I can’t wait to see what else we learn about Calus and his toiling with the Darkness.

the narrative game of D2 has been really really strong since Beyond Light, and now reusing older content this way is a really smart idea.
