A Quiet Place Part II review

John Krasinski proves once again why he’s one of the most promising new directors in the business.

A few weeks ago I finally got to sit down and check out A Quiet Place Part II. It was my first time in a theater since March of 2020, and was honestly the perfect movie to come back on. A Quiet Place Part II was originally set to launch in March of last year, but ended up getting delayed by over a full year due to the pandemic. After finally getting to see it I have to say, it was worth the wait.

A Quiet Place Part II picks up moments after the original movie ends. I love when sequels do this. The time-jump or prequel angle are far too easy, and can feel like cop outs. A Quiet Place Part II just straight up tackles what happens directly after the events of the first film. Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmons, and Noah Jupe return as the main cast members, and are this time joined by Cillian Murphy.

It’s no surprise that everybody in this movie is pretty stellar. Emily Blunt is just as great as she was in the original movie, and Cillian Murphy is an awesome addition. Millicent Simmons however has the best performance in the entire movie. Somehow surpassing what she did in the first flick, Simmons shows some serious talent in A Quiet Place Part II.

Although he’s on-screen much less, John Krasinski is a driving force behind why this movie is so good. As Director, he tells this story masterfully. It’s beautifully shot, and Krasinki knows just how to make the audience feel just as stressed out as the character themselves.

The only downside to A Quiet Place Part II is that it really does feel like more of what we got in the first movie. Though there is more world-building, I would’ve loved for the story to branch out a bit more. We also see a lot of the monsters in this one, far more than we do in the original. From a horror perspective, losing a bit of that mystery takes away from the scares.

Regardless, A Quiet Place Part II is excellent. It’s one of the best movies of the year, and more than anything, it makes me excited for whatever John Krasinski does next.
