Rocket League Was the Best-Seller in the PS Store In 2016

Sony releases their top-selling PlayStation 4 games of 2016, and the winner is a bit surprising.

Rocket League is hugely popular, but it comes as a bit of a surprise that it managed to beat every AAA title last year to become the best-selling game on PS Store. Not only did Rocket League reign supreme on Sony’s North American digital storefront, but it also managed to capture the title in Europe as well. The second and third best-seller slots went to Battlefield 1 and Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition in North America, and FIFA 17 and Battlefield 4 in Europe.

Sony also released other North American PS Store sales charts for 2016. The PlayStation 3’s PS Store top-seller for 2016 was Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition. The PlayStation 4 add-on that sold the most last year was Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Awakening followed by Destiny: Rise of Iron. The PS Vita games that sold the most were Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition, and GOD EATER: Resurrection.

This was the first year the PlayStation VR was available for sale, but even though it doesn’t have a lot of software yet, its top three were some of my favorite games of 2016. The PSVR chart leaders were Job Simulator, Batman: Arkham VR, and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.

It was a great year for Sony, and they certainly moved a lot of software. Definitive numbers aren’t available to go with the PS Store charts Sony released, but we’re probably looking at millions of copies sold for each title, at least on the PlayStation 4 charts.
