One of the biggest differences between the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive virtual reality headsets is how they deliver audio. The Oculus Rift has a high-quality pair of headphones integrated into the headset, while the HTC Vive required you to provide your own audio solution. Depending on which type of headphones you use, they can be awkward to wear with the HTC Vive comfortably. However, HTC has revealed at CES 2017 that they’ll be offering a “Deluxe Audio Strap” which replaces the stock HTC Vive head strap with one with integrated headphones.

The HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap includes interior padding, a new 3-in-1 cable path, and a new size adjusting dial on the back of the headset. HTC Vive general manager Daniel O’Brien stated to UploadVR that they weren’t sure whether they’d sell the strap exclusively as an accessory, or include it with future HTC Vive headsets.

HTC has slated a “Q2 2017” release date for the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, with a price coming closer to launch. With the new Deluxe Audio Strap and the introduction of the HTC Vive Tracker, the HTC Vive is looking more attractive than ever for VR aficionados.
