Grand Theft Auto V now up to 70 million units shipped

Mafia 3, NBA 2K17 also have strong first weeks, according to Take-Two's latest financials.

Grand Theft Auto V is the game that just keeps on shipping, at least according to publisher Take-Two Interactive.

In it's latest financial call for investors, the company reported that the popular open-world title has now shipped more that 70 million units, a jump of more than 5 million since may and 10 million since February. CEO Strauss Zelnick said the game still has a "robust demand," with multiplayer mode GTA Online still getting a lot of play.

Keep in mind that shipped units does not equate with units sold to consumers, just the number shipped off to retailers.

GTA V launched in late 2013 for Xbox 360 and PS3, then Xbox One and PS4 in 2014. It finally launched for PC last year.

As for other games, NBA 2K17 had the strongets first week in franchise history, and has shipping more than 4.5 million units since its launch in late September. Mafia 3 shipped the same number, but in the first week, making it the fastest selling title in 2K history. That's saying something considering the company also has GTA and the Civilization series.

Revenue for the quarter also rose, GTA V, led by NBA 2K16 and 2K17, XCOM 2 and BioShock: The Collection.

How many of you guys have purchased GTA5 multiple times?

I've purchased 3 total: PS3, PS4 & PC - don't really regret any of the purchases given the leaps in fidelity each time.

I've bought it for ps3 and ps4 and am avoiding buying it for pc because I don't want to buy it three times. But I really want to see how good it looks with my 1070.

twice so far, xbox 360 and ps4, and about to purchase it on PC again as soon as it goes on a decent sale. Stupid pricing just won't go down!

        I bought it 4 times:

        -360, which I sold
-Xbox one(disc) which I sold when I got digital
        -Xbox one digital
        -PC

Every purchase has been digital for me so I'm stuck with each inferior one :/

Twice; first time was the collector's edition (XBOX 360) on release day, and then I picked up the PS4 version and finished it earlier this year.

Yeah. Both console purchases coincided with me getting distracted by other games, and then I bought it on PC when I built a new system last year, but just never got around to it.

"That's saying something considering the company also has GTA and the Civilization series." You probably made a mistake here. There is no chance in hell that Mafia III sold "faster" than GTA V.

It's a crime against humanity that they never released a DLC pack.

You mean expansion right? There's been a shit ton of "free" dlc.

Yea, I mean anything related to the single player game. The story and characters were both awesome, it's a shame they didn't expand on it any.

I know there's a ton of multiplayer crap, but I have no interest in that.

Not to mention the hordes of annoying 13 year olds make it unbearable. I lasted all of 5 minutes before I had to turn it off.

I genuinely enjoyed the online heist stuff but the incredibly long loading times killed them for me. It would take 15-20 minutes just to get a mission started.

I only recenty finished playing the single player and went online to check out the status there. It is definitely fun to play the heist-based games. It has a feeling of Payday to it. However, the problem is that those load times... DEAR GOD... They are still horrible. I will sit for 5-10 minutes at a time just waiting for something to happen. No clue what its doing.

Honestly sad to hear it didn't get better because, yeah, it felt like Payday with looser shooting but more overall variables/elements to a given heist. Would have loved to play that co-op with people.

Yea, I fired up a crew for some friends. I'm trying to get them to play regularly, but you're welcome to drop in if you like. I definitely think the heist system is worth the pain to be honest right now. Its so much fun with the open world-y aspect.
