Mass Effect Andromeda plot teased in latest gameplay trailer

Are you brave enough to sign up for the Andromeda Initiative? EA certainly hopes so.

Electronic Arts and Bioware has released a new trailer to promote Mass Effect Andromeda’s “Andromeda Initiative.”

The Andromeda Initiative appears to be a way to subscribe to the title’s newsletter, which fans should expect orientation to begin on November 7th. Critical mission information, special training opportunities, and a special reward upon completion are being promised for new recruits of this special program.

The trailer to promote the Andromeda Initiative teases a future where man journeys beyond the Milky Way, which begins 600 years in the future. “...we issue this call to the brave, the inquisitive, to the trail blazers of the human race as an invitation to stand on the shoulders of those who came before, and challenge yourself to go further,” the voiceover says towards the latter part of today’s trailer.

Mass Effect Andromeda is scheduled to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in March 2017.

Enough time has passed, that the bitter taste left by the ending ME3 has faded. Still, they have lost me as a pre-order/day 1 purchaser. I'll wait for the reviews, and probably a sale before I pay for this one.

Bioware titles are absolutely "wait and see" products for me. Plus the way EA deals with DLC means that any Bioware game is really only worth buying at $15 because there's another $30-$40 worth of DLC that EA adds on top that EA will not willingly discount.

Close to how I feel. Except I'll probably get it right away, just not pre-ordering like I did with collector's edition ME3.

Despite the ending ME3 was an amazing game.

Yeah I'm waiting as well. My concern is that this is going to be heavily focused on the action, akin to Gears of War, instead of a more subdued, slow gameplay like the first (and maybe second) games. I did not like the compromises they made in the third game to make it more like a blockbuster triple-AAA m-m-m-mMONSTER KILL game.

The last time I remember them talking publicly and explicitly about it, they said they were very happy with the base of ME3's gameplay. Bring it on, I say. That shit was fucking fun.

Looking forward to this. I like how they managed to ditch the ending of the original Trilogy by basically getting as far away from it as possible haha.

I am excited for this! I normally don't get games as soon as they come out but I probably will with this one. Loved the Mass Effect Trilogy, which I would play again remastered too!

The prelude starts around then. The game itself probably sometime after events of ME3.

Which events though? There would be a vastly different universe to come home to unless there was a "correct" ending.

I doubt there is going to be any chance of going back to the Milky Way Galaxy. They left everyone behind for a one way mission. Even Commander Shepherd's voice is heard in an early teaser bidding them farewell so we can pin the events being sometime before ME3 since at the start of ME3 he's in Systems Alliance custody. And they're traveling at FTL to Andromeda so the light of such events will take millions of years since it's 2.5 Million Light Years away and it doesn't seem like there is going to be much in the way of contact between the two. So probably many hundreds if not longer time has passed. I'm sure they'll tell us when the game draws closer.

The old ME galaxy is not the focus nor should it be. Hence this basically is a reboot to events before the great RGB Ending.
