Turok 2 remake 'is coming' according to Nightdive Studios

Untangling legal rights to work with classic properties has held up production so far.

A representative from Nightdive Studios posted on Steam that a remake of N64 classic Turok 2 "is coming," but rights to the Turok license have put a crimp in production (via PC Gamer).

"So as many of you may have guessed, working on the rights to these classic titles can be tricky and sometimes contractual obligations prevents the transparency we've enjoyed on some of our other titles which is why updates have been mysteriously absent," wrote a Nightdive developer.

The publisher posted an update to put Turok fans at ease. A remake of the first game launched on Steam last year, followed by nearly 10 months of silence regarding a remake of Turok 2. " We're well aware of the demand for Turok 2 and it is still in development," he wrote. "In fact we started development just shortly after the launch of the first Turok. Turok 2 is a bigger game, more enemies, more weapons, more locations and most importantly: Turok 2 had multiplayer."

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil was released on Nintendo 64 in October 1998, 16 years ago this month. It garnered acclaim from critics and players for its unique weapons, local multiplayer—a staple in console FPS following Rare's success with Goldeneye 007 a year earlier—and varied gameplay. Turok 2 went on to sell over one million copies, a high mark for the late 1990s.

Nightdive is well aware of the nostalgia surrounding the N64 classic, which is why they're not rushing the remaster. " In our quest to bring you the most authentic experience at the highest quality level available we've decided to give Turok 2 the love it deserves and release the game 'when it's done' which is why all we've been able to say is this: Turok 2 is coming! Thank you for your continued support and patience, we know you're going to love it!"

They should mod the cerebral bore into every game.

Hopefully they fix the ammo/health/enemy spawn mess from the original game, not to mention the bullshit max ammo limits. :(

Such a great assortment of weapons...that you never had any ammo for.

This could be awesome. I loved Turok!

But they need to do more than a graphical update. Clipping was bad (as per the times) and the layouts of various items were absurd.
