Portal and Half-Life movies are still in the works, J.J. Abrams says

An announcement on Portal may be coming 'fairly soon'. Of course, it could be a lie

We've been teased about the potential Portal and Half-Life movies for years now. But J.J. Abrams has assured fans yet again that both projects are still in the works and even closer to reality.

"We have a meeting coming up next week with Valve, we’re very active," he told IGN. "I’m hoping that there will be a Portal announcement fairly soon."

Abrams said that they had talked to several writers, trying to find people who understand the games. "We are having some really interesting discussions with writers, many of whom ... once you said you’re doing a movie or show about a specific thing that is a known quantity you start to find people who are rabid about these things," he said. "As someone who loves playing Half Life and Portal, what’s the movie of this, it’s incredible when you talk to someone who just ‘gets’ it, it’s like, oh my god, it’s really the seed for this incredible tree you’re growing."

A bit convoluted, but there you have it. Of course, Hollywood's version of "fairly soon" probably doesn't match up with ours, so the waiting game continues.

Unless his take is a lie ...
