The first of two expansion packs sends you packing to a far-off and frigid land.

Following yesterday's leak, Bandai Namco has formally announced Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel, the first of two DLC expansions planned for From Software's Dark Souls finale.

In the same vein of the frosted castle and city of Eleum Loyce found in Dark Souls 2's Crown of the Ivory King expansion, Ashes of Ariandel will feature a winter wonderland environment. "Players are tasked to enter the land of Ariandel and defeat the evil within to uncover the mystery of what has caused the land to become defiled," according to a press release issued by Bandai Namco.

Besides new vistas, Ashes of Ariandel will include new weapons, armor, and magic. A PVP zone called Immortal Competition will give you a chance to strut your build's stuff against other players.

The DLC will release on October 25 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It will cost $14.99 separately, or you can get it as part of Dark Souls 3's season pass for $24.99.

Seems to imply some sort of boss rush mode? No?

I'd think so. I can't see them reusing those bosses for just the hell of it.

Might just be an indication of 'this dlc links to the lore in this way' ?

      Painted World!

Realized I actually bought the season pass for the first time ever, so I'm really looking forward to this. May start my character over though.

I have such a hard time with the giant crabs in the murky-movement-penalty water. >:(

I know. I about cheered when I saw that bridge into the city that was the painted world.

Maybe it's the real one the painting depicts?

I never bothered to kill them. You can basically sprint past all of the big crabs or use your giant friend to kill that one in Ferron Keep

I really can't wait to hear what the backstory on the cauldron is. That's pretty awesome.
