Rocket League's first Championship Series did so well that Psyonix already has the ball rolling (boy am I clever) on Season 2, and it's doubled the prize pool to foment even hotter competition.

Psyonix's Josh Watson broke the news in a blog post detailing how feedback from the first championship informed the structure and winnings on the line in season two. "The main piece of feedback we received was that the format was overly complicated. For Season 2 we are streamlining the process; we’re getting rid of the two-split system and the weighted points, and moving to something a little more standard."

Like season one, season two will kick off with opening qualifiers. Competition proceeds until eight teams in each region—North America and Europe—remain standing. Those eight teams will move on to League Play, a four-week, round-robin series of eliminations that unfold in best-of-five series. Six teams per region will qualify for Regional Playoffs, a two-week event designed to whittle competitors down to the final four teams in each region. From there, play goes on to the Grand Finals.

Total prize pool: $250,000, a major step up from season one's pot of $75 grand.

Registration opens on August 24. Get to practicing, and refer to Watson's blog post for fine details.
