InXile Entertainment's Torment: Tides of Numenera has been plodding along toward a Q1 2017 release for PC after its highly successful Kickstarter, but it appears the team has been working a bit more than was realized.

In conjunction with Techland, the developer has revealed that it will also be releasing a PS4 and Xbox One version of the game at the same time. Those versions will be shown off at GamesCom in Germany later this month.

“After the critical and commercial success of Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut on consoles, and with fans clamouring for it, it had been in our plans to bring Torment: Tides of Numenera to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,” Brian Fargo, inXile CEO, said in the press release. “We’re especially excited to be partnering with Techland, who as developers themselves perfectly understand how to do a release without any compromise to the quality of the title.”

The game was originally supposed to come out in late 2015, but was first delayed to sometime this year. Then, in June, inXile revealed that the game would be pushed back to Q1 of 2017 with Techland publishing.

"All said and done, our combined iteration and localisation efforts are looking to be a 6-month process," Fargo said at the time. "So, we have two paths open to us, a bit of choice and consequence, if you will. Those of you who have been following our updates know we have been hinting towards a late 2016 release, and we could crunch and rush to get the game out around November. But doing so would mean both sacrificing the quality of our localisation and would lead to a less polished game for the nearly 100,000 people total who have backed the game. Therefore, in the interests of giving everyone the best experience, we will be releasing Torment in early Q1 2017."

It is not clear if the delay was to also ensure simultaneous release of the console ports, but it does make the delay a bit more palatable now.

PC players who backed the Infinity Engine game have had beta access since January.
