Get a free Xbox One if you purchase a Microsoft Surface

It's a back to school deal, so time is limited.

Clarification: When going through checkout, the Xbox One will not be free, per se, but your discounts will exceed the cost of the $299 console.

Everyone likes back-to-school sales. Microsoft revealed a doozy today, although it could be counterproductive when it comes to studying.

For a limited time, if you buy a Surface/Xbox One bundle through the Microsoft Store, you will get an Xbox One (not the S version, however). Choosing from the Surface Pro 4 or the Surface Book, students will then get the console and an extra controller, a choice of a free game, plus a $50 gift code from the MS store. When building your bundle, if you enter the school you are affiliated with, you get an additional 10 percent off.

The sale kicks off today and runs through August 14. The sale works in the online or retail stores and is good only in the United States and Canada. Any student, parent buying for a student, or faculty can participate in the sale.

Granted, a tablet is an excellent tool for learning on the go, but a free console, too? Any productivity just went out the window unless you are into game design or coding.
