Xbox One getting two big summer updates

Cortana will be added to the Experience Preview this week.

Microsoft has been constantly updating its Xbox One Experience since it launched in November. This week, it will start rolling out a look at its summer updates for preview users, including the addition of Cortana.

Cortana voice commands, which is already in place on Windows 10 devices, will work with both headsets and Kinect. You can also use her to check for new games, see what friends are doing and other tasks that you usually can get a personal digital assistant to do. If you are a preview member, you can start shouting Hey Cortana later this week.

Other Xbox One changes include an update to the Games Collection interface, Facebook friend finder, and an easier way to share you experiences with friends. There will also be updates to the Xbox app and Windows 10 gaming.

"Like all Preview releases, the features are a work-in-progress as we refine them before they launch to the broader community, and some features can stay in Preview for extended periods of time," said Mike Ybarra, director of program mangement for Xbox. "Additionally, we’re merging the Windows Insider program with the Xbox One Preview program to streamline feedback and updates."

More than 200 new features inspired by fan feedback have been released on Xbox One through our regular updates and the Xbox One Experience," he said. "In the upcoming months, the team will be focusing all of our efforts on the next two updates and won’t be releasing an update every month."

Is Cortana voice support better than the existing Kinect software? I use kinect voice commands pretty often, but it only recognizes my voice ~70% of the time.

Is it really going to work though? On the PS4 when I enable it, every time I turn on the PS4 is changes the HDMI input channel on my TV to the wrong one. I turned it off rather than fool with it.

Sounds like maybe a TV issue, the PS4 works fine for me.

Sounds like a TV firmware issue. Mine took a couple of automatic firmware updates for all the appropriate controls to work as they should.
