Blizzard believes that square pegs shouldn't be forced through round holes: rather than sand edges to cram in an idea that isn't working, its developers will set the peg aside and try something else. (See: Diablo 3's PVP mode.)

Held back from the game's recent beta, Overwatch's competitive mode isn't a square peg. It works. Just not well enough to make the cut for the game's May 24 launch, mere hours away. In a Q&A video for Facebook, game director Jeff Kaplan answered questions submitted by fans. One concerned Overwatch's competitive mode. Kaplan confirmed that the team was focused on it, and announced that it should arrive in the game's first big update, due out in June.

Fans can also expect more Overwatch shorts, animated movies that explore the backgrounds and personalities of the game's near-two-dozen playable characters. Season 1 wrapped up with a look at Soldier 76. Season 2's premiere will put Roadhog, a shotgun-toting fighter, under the microscope.
