NSFW: ESports team banned from ESL because of YouPorn sponsor

It looks like the porn video company may need to find a new way to get into games.

It appears that eSports is taking a stiff position on promoting sex in their business. They are not going to take it lying down, so the ESL has slapped a YouPorn team with a premature ejection.

According to Polygon, (via VG 24/7), Team YP was given the thumb by the ESL because “Advertising pornography is not legal in the markets we operate in, and the vast majority of partners we’re working with have strict ‘no drugs, no alcohol, no pornography’ rules that we’ve contractually taken on board. These aren’t new rules, but ones that have been in our rulebooks for a long time. We spoke to the manager of Team YP earlier this year and in that conversation we explained the situation and rules in detail, and offered to look for potential alternatives in a bigger group. At the same time, we are consulting with our legal teams about this. We will inform the team and the management as soon as we have any updates.”

Team YP responded via Twitter that they were disappointed. "We will continue to strive towards professionalism and transparency."

According to GamesBeat, Team YP apparently made several attempts to get their hands around the situation, including an offer to rebrand the team, but the ESL stood firm and said the thrust of its decision would stand.

“I am disappointed that Team YP’s growth is being stunted by this decision, not to mention the effect that this will have on our roster of players,” Team YP manager Claire Fisher told GamesBeat. “While for some, our participation in esports has been controversial, stopping our players from competing because they are sponsored by us, in spite of Team YP operating as a completely SFW [safe for work] brand, clearly separated from any adult content, seems unfair to say the least.”

All sex jokes aside, it is unfortunate for the team, who will now need to look for other representation unless a last minute deal can be reached.

I thought they squashed this issue last year? Honestly, its to be expected. Both Team YP and ESL tournies aren't that good anyway.

The workaround was to just call them Team YP, but that's apparently not enough for ESL. This sucks for the players the most.

Yeah, it really does. Im not too familiar with the players, but Im sure they will find another spot somewhere. Maybe Team YP will just stay out of ESL tournies. Imo, the ESL ones are the worst.

YouPorn as a sponsor? That's disgusting. PornHub offers way better content and services.

Because esports are popular with children. Because their website is illegal in countries where esports leagues may wish to have a presence.

Pornography has destroyed many marriages, and gives people the wrong idea
of what sex should be like.

Do you ever wonder why in pornography, the two people that have sex are never married?
      Kinda strange isn't it?
