Swedish game studio Mojang, known for Minecraft, just announced a new strategy game titled Crown and Council. And guess what? You don't even have to pine for it: it's available right now on Steam for free.

Mojang describes Crown and Council as "a fast-paced strategy game about conquering land and obliterating rival monarchs." It resembles Minecraft visually: lots of charming little pixels lending it an old-school feel.

"It's simple to play, but not quite so easy to win," Mojang teased. "Do you spend all your cash on universities, hoping to survive long enough that your book-learnin’ makes you unstoppable in the late game? Or do yo go for a quick land-grab, hoping to put enough boots on the ground to give you an irreversible early advantage?"

Crown and Council was developed by one person, Henrik Petersson. Like other strategy titles predicated on resources, you advance in Crown and Council by gathering money to expand your empire and raise an army.
