Pokemon GO first details, screenshots revealed

Gotta catch 'em all? Go check out some landmarks.

The Pokemon Company has revealed details for Pokemon GO, the franchise's foray into the mobile market.

Pokemon GO will utilize real life settings, like the ability to capture Water-type Pokemon when near lakes and oceans. If you enter an area with a wild Pokemon, your phone will vibrate to let you know it's nearby, and then you'll use the touch screen to throw a Poke Ball. Where does one obtain Poke Balls, you may ask? At PokeStops, naturally, located in spots like historical markers, monuments, and art installations. PokeStops will also house Pokemon Eggs, which hatch after you walk a certain number of steps.

You'll increase your Trainer level as you catch more Pokemon, letting you capture more powerful Pokemon and use a greater variety of items. Evolution is performed by catching the same Pokemon multiple times.

Players will also be able to join one of three teams and take part in Gym battles. Like PokeStops, Gyms are assigned to real-life locations, and teams will have to plan their strategies to hold and defend a Gym from other teams.

I am surprised SquareEnix isn't taking them to court over the whole 'GO' thing, and I don't say that often, but I keep seeing Pokemon Go and think it's part of the Hitman Go and Tomb Raider Go game series.

you failed to notice that Pokemon GO is capitalized and the others are not. Clearly different

Okay so I really like this idea.

...but I'll probably never actually use it.

As long as they don't make it so that specific Pokemon are only located in a specific spot where pedophiles can just sit and wait for a kid to show up. Making it a general area for a general type (and I assume RNG for a rare) is way better than what I assumed from that first video.

Only in opposite sex bathrooms in Charlotte can the rarest of pokemon be captured according to the NC State House Republican's. We must strike down the gender equality laws and allow discrimination per Team Rocket.

Wasn't mentioned here, but there's also the Pokemon GO Plus accessory to tell you when you're near a Pokemon to capture.

When is this game supposed to come out? Will it be free/freemium/IAP-supported?

Ah, so pokémon ingress, aka one of those games that's unplayable unless you're in a major urban center. Whoopie.

Yup, no one has smartphones in densely populated major urban centers. Pretty much worthless software that no one will use.

        or fucking awesome

              The reply makes no sense.

Haxim: I'm not urban, don't care
Tmwtb: uh, you can totally play this in an urban area
