Heroes of the Storm gets its 50th Hero, StarCraft melee warrior Dehaka

Those going up against Dehaka won't know what hit them. Literally.

Blizzard has announced Dehaka will be its 50th Hero entering Heroes of the Storm’s Nexus.

Dehaka is a StarCraft melee warrior that has a unique mount feature with his abilities paying tribute to his primal Zerg roots. Instead of using a Mount, Dehaka has the ability to burrow to any bush or vent on the Battleground, although the ability has a 40-second cooldown.

Here are the rest of its abilities:

Mount

  • Brushstalker (Z)
    • You cannot use Mounts. Instead, you may burrow to any bush or vent on the Battleground. 40 second cooldown

Trait

  • Essence Collection (D)
    • You collect 10 Essence per Hero Takedown, and 2 per enemy Minion killed nearby, storing up to a maximum of 50 Essence.
    • Activate to consume all stored Essence and regenerate Health over the next 5 seconds for each stack consumed.
    • Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.

Basic Abilities

  • Drag (Q)
    • Lash out with your tongue, dealing light damage to the first enemy hit, and dragging them with you for 1.75 seconds.
  • Dark Swarm (W)
    • Over the next three seconds, you gain the ability to move through units and deal damage in an area around yourself. Deals double damage to Heroes.
    • Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.
  • Burrow (E)
    • Burrow into the ground, entering Stasis and becoming Invulnerable for 2 seconds.

Heroic Abilities

  • Isolation (R)
    • Launch biomass that deals damage, silences, and slows the first enemy Hero it hits by 30% for 3 seconds. For the next 6 seconds, the affected enemy loses sight of allied Heroes, and has greatly reduced vision.
  • Adaptation (R)
    • After a 5 second delay, 60% of all damage taken during this time will be returned to you as Health.

Blizzard has even included a number of Gameplay Tips for those who may be considering checking out Dehaka:

  • Brushstalker can be used for a daring escape, or a way to pin down enemies in the backline after a team fight has been won.
  • The Drag ability and how it is used will be the mark of a great Dehaka player. Do your best to grab Squishy Assassins or Healers for your team to pick off.
  • Burrow is your trump card. Bait an enemy into thinking they have secured a takedown, then burrow allowing your teammates time to show up and provide you support.
  • If you find that your opponents have been focusing on you more than the average game, Adaptation might be for you. Soak up all the damage thrown your way and heal up in exchange.

This sounds pretty good. I like the different take on a warrior model. BUT, I still want my Firebat melee specialist!

This definitely looks good. I'm really enjoy the unique abilities they come up with for new heroes. Burrow to any vent/bush on the map? That gives some really interesting opportunities. Just gotta figure out how much dmg this guy can do.

Seems like it's a mobile version of Stitches.

I doubt he'll do a ton of damage, but be more in line with Diablo.

Yeah weird- does any other ability or anything target or acknowledge bushes?

Map RNG is the key to success here :D

HoTS is pretty good about having cover all over the place though.

No but it's basically a variant of Falstad's ability. Seems a bit arbitrary but global map presence is always cool.

Isolation sounds pretty crazy too. Can't see allies for 6 seconds? That can cause some huge disruption in quick match games. Voice chat weakens it quite a bit, but not being able to see your teammates especially if you're a healer like Morales sounds huge.

Yesss I'm all about the nonhuman heroes. I think I have only 2 or 3 non-critter heroes.
