Nintendo Lowers Its Annual Profit Outlook In Response To Weak Sales

Could we see an upswing when the NX finally makes its debut?

Nintendo has cut its expected operating profit for this fiscal year after weaker-than-expected sales reared their heads.

The company is now expecting 33 billion yen, which roughly translates to ~$293 million in profit for its current fiscal year, slashed down from an expected 50 billion yen. The operating profit numbers weren't the only ones to decline either, with the net profit forecast down from 35 billion yen as well.

Nintendo still has the NX up its sleeve, as well as Pokemon Sun and Moon, releasing later this year during the holiday season. Perhaps this will bolster the weakened sales, though it seems the company has been struggling and will continue to struggle despite its many attempts to target diehard Nintendo fans with special editions, re-releases, and amiibo figures.

Wonder if there'll ever be a day when Nintendo makes its games available to all consoles. They'd make a killing.

It's more likely than not, but it will definitely only happen after Nintendo has exhausted all other options.

I personally find the idea Metroid Prime 4 on Steam pretty appealing. But I also like the idea of Nintendo staying in the hardware biz

Brittany, please be sure to state what the company's fiscal year is. Does this new outlook cover holiday 2016? If so, then that tells us Nintendo doesn't expect the NX to be a huge seller.

Found the answer myself. Their year ending is March 2016. So, no this adjusted forecast does NOT cover any time that would include the NX. Good for them.
