Titanfall 2 will feature a single-player campaign that resembles historic conflicts

Think the American Revolution and the American Civil War, but in space.

We know Titanfall 2 is coming, although there hasn’t been much information regarding the upcoming sequel outside of its existence and that it’ll be available across multiple platforms. Over the weekend, we learned some new details surrounding the game, which will have an actual single-player campaign.

Forbes spoke with Titanfall 2 lead writer Jesse Stern, which he revealed the title will take place in a world that’s filled with scientific wonders, but will still be “grounded, dirty, human, and real.”

Stern admits Titanfall’s presentation was a bit lacking. “One of the shortcomings of the first game was we just did not have the mechanism to tell everyone 'here's who you are, here's where you are, and who's around you,'" Stern shared. "We knew all the answers, we just could not deliver it."

Stern continues by offering just a taste of what kind of story we can expect to be told in Titanfall 2. He wants to deliver a vision of a grand global colonial warfare that reflects the story of the American Revolution and the American Civil War, but in space. “We imagined the next generation of immigrants moving out to the new frontier of an inhabitable planet,” he says. “Rather than taking a traditional sci-fi approach to that we wanted to look at how that would happen practically, what the ships would look like and with machines that were designed for excavation and construction , demolition and working the land, and what happens when they are turned into instruments of war.”

Ever historian should play the part of the game where Boudica and the Britons sack Rome with their throng of war elephants.

I went and read the Forbes interview. I think this has a lot of potential. Just as GoT is a retelling of the War of the Roses, Titanfall 2 will be US Civil War/Revolutionary War. Titanfall 1 did have a bit of a story too it, so hopefully the lore gets built out in the sequel.

Building the sequel? They were a small team, probably still are. If they were just going to do another MP focused game it would have been done by now, or soon.

I don't need SP in this series, but I hope it works out for them. I don't think I'll buy the game if they plan on doing the pay for dlc split again. Learn from your past mistakes and monetize cosmetics, dummies. They'll probably end up charging more for maps this time because EA and this extended development cycle, or they just don't know any better.

They have a second team now, also. I think the OG God of War guy is the lead? I can't remember.

Speaking of that, how did they bung up Source so much?

I've never played a source game that was so incredibly "choppy" when using vsync. Would be a solid 60fps yet moving the mouse / turning the view felt like it was dropping frames constantly. I still don't know if that's a mouse input issue or renderer thing. And vsync off is better for input lag anyway, but I still prefer no tearing most of the time. And even vsync off wasn't completely smooth like one would expect. Plus there were a lot of issues with people running on high refresh displays, 60fps caps, and mouse sensitivity being tied to framerate. A lot of garbage going on in an otherwise solid engine base.

Every time I get the mood to play some Titanfall I'm reminded of how crappy things can feel outside of the awesome movement.

I think I capped it at 75FPS (my CRT is 75Hz at 1920x1440) but didn't enable VSYNC because I generally don't like VSYNC and almost never notice tearing on a CRT (I think I got used to it in the Q3 days and it it just doesn't bother me for the most part...and most games cap the FPS somewhere and as a result you don't end up with much tearing anyway on a CRT as a result).

They just said it would be released before March 2017 along with some other titles (and if I remember really it was that it would be released in the fiscal year ending then...so it would as a result have to release before then along with Mass Effect and some other stuff mentioned).

Three years to release a game is not a long time.

I didn't really like the premise of mixing FPS and mech gameplay in practice. Having to fight a bunch of little guys running around with anti-armor weapons isn't much fun for the mech. I feel like it should just be a mech game primarily.

That was a lot of fun for me, you don't even have to shoot them, you can just dash over the little guys and squash them. Also melee punch them into a fine mist. Very satisfying.

They had a mode that was all Titan vs Titan, though. That will probably return. I liked both the 6v6 and 2v2 variant. I'm sure something like that will return.

The mech part was the least interesting element for me. The wall running and shit was what I was there for more than anything...mechs were just a nice bonus.

I liked the Pilot only mode for a change of pace, but it the game was already dying by the time they added that on PC and it was really hard to find players in that mode and others eventually. Now it's straight up impossible sort of making a custom game.

I think I had the most fun with CTF once they changed it so you couldn't carry the flag while inside a Titan and just dash back to base with this giant shield around you. Then the Titan gameplay became about protecting the Pilots, and flag running made the advance movement really shine. Kind of a perfect fit for everything in that game. I didn't understand why some people hated it so much.
