Online play for Mortal Kombat X has been a bit of a weak spot, so NetherRealm is looking to refresh it with whole new netcode that's set to be tested out through a new online beta.

Mortal Kombat X has been largely well-received by its devoted fanbase, but there's no denying it has a few weak spots. The biggest one, as noted by many users, is its online play. But now it's looking like NetherRealm is ready to address this with all-new netkode.

NetherRealm is looking to implement an entirely new online play system that will no longer rely on its older dynamic input latency model and will lean closer towards the Good Game, Peace Out model. While it isn't exactly GGPO, NetherRealm feels that it's replicated something close to it. The new online MKX is going to need to be tested, though, and that's why NetherRealm is looking to take sign-ups.

The Mortal Kombat X Enhanced Online Beta is set to kick off on January 19 for a select few users. For more information, check out the video below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
