Battleborn's Toby will ride onto PlayStation platforms first; debut during open beta

What's better than a killer penguin riding a mech? PlayStation 4 users will get a chance to check this new character out first, as revealed during today's PlayStation Experience keynote.

Gearbox's Randy Pitchford hit the PlayStation Experience keynote stage this morning to briefly talk to the audience about Battleborn. Among the topics he touched on were the upcoming PlayStation-first open beta. He's also giving those PS4 users an incentive to jump into that open beta in the form of a new hero.

Battleborn is already set to include 25 heroes, but anyone that jumps into the PS4 beta will get special access to a 26th character that will be added after launch. That character is Toby, a killer penguin riding a giant mech. On top of that, Toby will also be playable during the open beta and will only be available on PlayStation 4.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
