Microsoft has announced its latest iteration in the Halo series, Halo 5: Guardians, has smashed a number of records, including becoming the fastest-selling Xbox One exclusive to-date and being the biggest Halo launch yet.

Halo 5: Guardians has sold over $400 million in global sales of both software and hardware, which has pushed the Halo franchise to over $5 billion in its lifetime. Since its release last week, the game has become the most played Xbox One game, and even spreading online to become the most played title on Xbox Live.

“The success of Halo 5: Guardians is a testament to the innovative work from the entire team at 343 Industries to bring this installment to Xbox One and the incredible community of fans who have come to love the story, characters and gameplay central to the franchise,” said Xbox head Phil Spencer. “The game represents all the possibilities of Xbox One and has earned its place as the anchor title in the greatest holiday games lineup in Xbox history.”

In just the past week, Halo 5: Guardians players have logged over 21 million hours of total gameplay, which includes 12 million hours in its campaign mode. Close to seven million multiplayer matches have been played across both Arena and Warzone game modes, and players have acquired 45 million REQ Packs, totalling over 568 million REQ Cards.
